EPS12 --- Trends in Physics
Overlap with Trends in Physics
There will be a conference in the same building and almost in the same
time for about 600 senior physicists. This is the so called Trends
in Physics conference which is organized by an EPS (European Physical
Society) member association in every third year. This conference (also
referred to as EPS12) gives a broad review on the main achievements of
the last 3 years in every fields of physics. To learn more about this,
see their official
web page.
In 2002 the Hungarian Physical Society is the organizer. This circumstance
gives a great opportunity for the meeting of two generations. Therefore
we organize some joint programs, such as: Lecture and poster competition,
Young physicists day, plenary speakers, farewell-barbeque.
How it will work? Normally if you register to ICPS2002 and
transfer the 120 euros, you may stay till the 27th of August, and you
are invited to attend the joint programs on Monday (26th) and on Tuesday
(27th). There will be some fields in the registration form where you can
specify whether or not you wish to be a participant of the conference
"Trends in Physics" (=EPS12). If you say yes to "Trends in Physics" you
will be automatically registered to EPS12 too (besides ICPS2002). Now, you
have to apply for a EU fellowship (an other chekbox in the registration
form). About 200 European citizens will get it. We are hoping in the
extension of this to American participants too. You will receive this
amount on Monday (26th), but price of the accomodation for 28-31th August
and the conference registration fee (for EPS12) will be withheld. The
rest, which should be quite enough for meals, is yours. For those, who
register to EPS12 and receive fellowship, the attendance at the EPS12
talks is obligatory! If you go for sightseeng during lecture-time,
some heavy-guys will meet you on the street and smash your face without
any question.
Young physicists day
If you present a poster or give a talk during ICPS2002, you may (and
are encouraged to) nominate yourself for the "presentation
competition". If a professor in incognito will ask you interesting
questions at the end of your talk or during the attended poster
session during Monday afternoon, you should know that he was there
just to decide whether your talk/poster is among the best three.
If so, you will be asked on Monday in the evening to present your work
as a plenary talk for 900 people (EPS12+ICPS2002 participants). All
eyes will be watching only at you as you begin your talk - a very good
feeling, beleive me!
